simonsnork
Hello all, I am calling out for help with an 82 wagon daily driver named Buttercup (yeswe still name our cars). This is my wife’s car. She had a 1996 but that thingbroke down all the time so we upgraded to an old beater 82 wagon. We havehad it for about four years and it is just starting to have a few issues thatare beyond me. Buttercup has been having an idling issue. It wouldn't hold an idleof run unless my wife kept her foot partially depressed on the throttle. I wentthrough a few things ruling them out. I found that her choke was not receiving12V or any juice for that matter. I opened the choke and now when we start itup it is as if the throttle were stuck down. I can see gas rushing through thesecond stage barrel. What is the most likely issue here. How can I rein this in? The engineredlines with in a second or two if I just start it and let it idle. djellum
if its the stock carb then the secondary is likely vacuum operated. id check all the linkages to see if any of them are stuck. also id look for vacuum leaks to see if thats your idling problem. if the choke wasn't working then maybe the carb was tuned that way and now that its open it needs a few turns. simonsnork
Thanks for the input. I can not find any obvious vacume leaks and the linkage seems to be in order. Do you think it is worth doing a rebuild on this? It seems like a fairly simple carb to rebuild. Are there any weird triks to Hatachi carbs.
