New Here and looking for info on Lifts/upgrades For Loyale Wagon!

Recommended Posts

Hello!  My name is Corey and I live in Arvada Colorado and own a 94 Subaru Loyale Wagon and would like to beef it up. Get a lift on it maximize my engine power and upgrade the tranny/drive to allow for some off-roading and mudding.

I invision a "mad max" style road warrior car and i wanna do it right but still holding on to some of my cash while i do it. if anyone has any information on how to:

 Lift by at least 4"

Upgrade the current engine or suggest upgrade options

Any information on what i need to do to ensure sufficient power for transfer case/drivetrain.

I do have a second 88' Loyale I was going to use to cannibalize for parts which has everything in tact, just older. but again suggest what i can and cannot use from that for what I would like to do.

 thanks for checkin it out!

right on thanks. I think i may have found a project 2.2 boxer that i can work on while i drive the car still. im gonna to a bottom up rebuild on it if I get it. any first steps or suggestions?

and if i do pull the EJ22 Swap into my Loyale, running new wiring is necessary from what I have seen. easiest way to make this happen as well?

I am a "do it yourself" guy and wanna get my hands on all the work so i will be doing the work. I just bought a Chilton Subaru 1985-96 repair manual book and have this as a resource as well.

 thanks again for any information!

Best thing your going to want to do is get a doner legacy for a swap. That way you have matching engine and harness from a known running car. Makes life Easier, that way you know it was running prior to swap. And start acquiring parts for the swap. They can be time consuming and costly. But doing it your self helps a lot.

This will be your best freind if you do it all your self.

Also there's a ton of personal experience write ups on here.

What that dude said ^

Personally i'd go with a 90-94 Legacy as the donor just for the ease of not having to mess with OBD II but then again having the diagnostic plug in capabilities is cool too.

What part of Arvada are you in? You also have to remember to make your car fully emission passable. Which isn't too difficult, i did it there before. I own a house right by the air care colorado in Golden and i did a EA to EJ swap using a 1990 Legacy 2.2 into an 85' GL Wagon. Just had to have the car inspected by a guy down on federal somewhere that signed a paper verifying i installed a cat and oxygen sensor. Good luck with your rig and if you're looking for any parts i might have a few. It should be noted however that i now live in Cheyenne, WY but rent our house on Golden out so i come down every now and then.

thanks Levi. yeah i live off wadsworth near olde town arvada district. Im sorry im so green but what is an OBD II ? lol Yeah right now im just lookin for information and the first steps to take while I still use the car to commute. I'd like to try to tackle each smaller project one at a time so that way i can progressively upgrade it and its not off the road for a long time.

would i be able to use a legacy swapper car for any other parts as well or just the engine and harness?

I was gonna use my 88 loyale (which has its engine/tranny removed) for any other parts for my car ( i need new window motors, rear strut and various other cosmetic things)

could i use a legacy from the same era as my 94 loyale to replace any of those previously listed items or should i use the 88 loyale for it?

is the port cars 1995 and newer have which can tell you things going on in the engine and alot of other systems of the car. From what i've seen/read about OBD II which is 1995 and newer in subies can be a pain with certain sensors and what not. The easiest by far is the EJ22 swap from years 1990-1994 which is OBD I, still has diagbostics but not as advanced as OBD II.

If you're really serious and interested you are going to spend countless hours reading and researching on this site brother haha
