1-3-2-4
A '05 Legacy GT with a seized motor seller wants $2300 for it and has 134K on it and a crack on the windshield and looks like some front bumper damage and the hood looks out of shape. subiwag
auto or manual? if it only needed an engine at that price i would say go for it. but potential front end damage turns it into a meh

Well I saw another that will run but has rod knock.. the thing is i can't find what a decent price is for a used replacement motor The one that has rod knock is $2000 but at least no bumper damage or cracked windshield. 86BRATMAN
You could always run an ej22e shortblock between the 255 heads.
1-3-2-4
On a Turbo? I can see that being all kinds of issues
86BRATMAN
Why? You'd be dropping the compression to within .2 of stock on the ej255. And it'd be a dirt cheap(compared to a replacement ej255) way to get the car drivable again.
1-3-2-4
yeah but it was for a N/A car
86BRATMAN
That hasn't stopped anybody from turboing them before. The pistons are the same material as any of the factory turbo engines. The difference between an na engine and a turbo engine is compression and management. You'll have the management already in the car, and the 255 heads will take care of dropping the compression to a very turbo friendly 8.5:1 with a set of .040" cometic gaskets. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you planning on turboing the 22e/25d hybrid in the outback?
brus brother
1-3-2-4 why not find something you can drop the motor from your recent wreck into? The front 1/2 of your old car survived, didn't it? What did insurance have to say about value/settlement? Sorry if off topic. 1-3-2-4
I feel they lowballed the car at $1,

86BRATMAN
That part would already be there this time.
1-3-2-4
That is right but what gaskets to use to match the 255 heads
86BRATMAN
Everything I'm seeing shows the 255 has the same coolant port design as 25d, 251, and 04-07 257. So the same cometic gasket used on your outback would work, don't recall what thickness you used for it, but I recommend the .040" for this application. 86BRATMAN
Compression ratio also depends on what head casting the car in question has, there are 2 different castings for the 255, one is a b25 like the STi(55cc), and one d25 which has a smaller chamber volume (51cc). Early 255s should have the b25 heads.
1-3-2-4
Hmm did not know about the different castings of it.. So what is the limit of a stock ej22e block anyways? I mean obviously if you go higher in power you need a good tune
86BRATMAN
Over on legacycentral there have been postings of running as much as 20 psi through them, with tuning of course. Don't remember off hand what power that was made.
86BRATMAN
It's more in the tuning that anything else. On rs25.com there was an ej25d making 500+ at the wheels, granted it had sti internals. But one hell of a tune and 40psi.

Stevo F
Sounds like a real project car- might be fun to work with with, but $2,300 seems too much. If I was looking for another Legacy at this point, I like the 2005- 06 (early 4th gen) Outbacks- seen a couple nice looking ones in the $4- $5K range.
