Robert11
Hello, First time poster. Will be receiving a new 2015 Outback shortly. I (think) I understand X-Mode, and the fact also that when selected it is apparently operable only under about 18 mph. Certainly seems to do a lot of very desireable things. Should be quite helpful on icy or snow covered roads, and/or going down hills even if dry. But, I can't get a good handle on when you would use X-Mode vs. when you would use the normal "Low Gear" via the selector. Why and when would one ever use low gear when X-Mode is available ? So, if someone could explain for me when to use each, and when not to (perhaps even more important), would be most appreciative. Thank you, Bob
SnatchedHatch
Low gear could be used when you need to tread lightly! Such as creeping through ... a lawn uhm if you need to, without leaving too much damage. I'm completely unfamiliar with X-Mode, I bet it's on the new CVT Outbacks? Our 5-speed auto 2011 has no such features X-mode should for gravel and steep, unpaved roads, and for snow and ice as well. Between the two, it sounds like the dynamic choice, as you have tried to describe. First and foremost, CHECK OUT YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL It will all be there Others may still assist further, hope I helped! -Sam Edited October 9, 2014 by SnatchedHatch
SnatchedHatch
Most questions like this can be solved by using Google, seriously. First thing that popped up is what you're looking for: http://www.planetsubaru.com/subaru-x-mode.htm I remember seeing a test video on a Forester using this to climb a hill, and then 5 competitor's domestic and Japanese failing to perform nearly as well. Really cool Bob, while I'm at it: This is what got me past the XV's questionable looks! Sam Edited October 9, 2014 by SnatchedHatch
