Subster Dude
Hi all, I have a 98 Forester S with 135,000 miles and have experienced the following: Lack of power, Seems to be better when warm. Transmisson seems to not down-shift when pressing accelerator. I have tuned up the engine with fresh spark plugs, air and fuel filters, Fuel pump, Knock sensor, cleaned EGR valve, timming belt, idlers, tensioner, water pump, replaced the front and rear O2 sensors as well as the coil and wires. Transmission fluid has been changed. All in all I have not experienced the transmission lag when shifting into drive, but I am wondering if I am feeling the effects of a sensor or solenoid failure in the making. When I step down on the accellerator, It feels like ther is no responce. Using a cheep scan tool to read live data, the only thing I notice is when the engine does respond, it is in open loop. No codes and the engine runs smooth. Some Subaru owners have complained of similar issues and have adaped driving habits to compensate, I would rather find a fix as my wife needs to be safe on the highway. Any help is appreciated. lmdew
Is the RPM changing when you press on the gas? If not and no CEL code think MAF

Subster Dude
I still believe it has to do with the transmission sense signal to downshift and or the valve body is sticking. I guess this from the warm transmission shifting better, and the fluid when cold is either not flowing smooth almost like the not moving forward symptom which may be soon to come.
