spicypeanut
So I was just about ready to buy this guys Subaru Brat decal set off of ebay when I realized it isn't actually true to the original. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Full-Set-of-Subaru-Brat-Vinyl-Decal-Stripes-/140718438794?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20c378f98a&vxp=mtr If you notice, the original Brat decal for the Gen 1 cars ends at the door, and has a nice tapered finish. The reprint from eBay has the stripe going all the way to the front of the car. Another difference is the eBay version is missing the Subaru name under where it says Brat. As well as having extra text "4x4" where the original one never had this. http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/1979-Subaru-BRAT-626x382.jpg My question to the community is, is there anyone that has re-created the original Brat decal that I can order today? Or will I have to have someone custom make me one?
Leeroy
There where actually two different decals on the Gen 1 Brats. You appear to be comparing the two different types. I believe the eBay seller you linked to sells both types. Opps, actually there were three types. '78-'80 (approximately) had multicoloured stipes along the sides. Both a short version that ended before the doors and long version that continued along the doors and stopped at the mirrors. The '81 EA81 Brat (again approx) had the larger single colour stripe that wrapped around the entire vehicle. Leeroy
Here you go, same seller different stripes: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140718462069 While they are possibly not 100% per the original decals, they are (IMHO) among the best available and made with modern materials so they should last well. Looks like the photos of the stripes are no longer working... Perhaps Pooparu can fix his listing!?! Edited October 16, 2014 by Leeroy

Thank you Leeroy, I believe the 2nd one you posted is exactly what I was looking for. Funny that it comes from the same seller. Now the only thing I'm unsure about is the color combination. I was thinking maybe just an all black stripe with white BRAT/Subaru lettering.

Leeroy
The stripes are done by a member here, check this thread and I am sure custom colours can be done: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/117562-tons-old-school-subaru-decals-on-ebay/?hl=stripes&do=findComment&comment=997386

subarubrat
I ordered one and am waiting on it now. He does a best offer but does not respond to the offers, I emailed him and let him know I had one and he responded "yes" but it just expired. I did a but it now and am waiting to see what happens. It certainly looks like good work and others have spoken highly of the decal.

spicypeanut
Anyone have any input on what color I should go with? Untitled by blue03wrx, on Flickr I wanted to go with something that is a little more subtle. I was thinking maybe a black decal, with the stripe colors (in order of outside to inside) dark red, black, dark red. with the text being a similar color that the car is painted. Any thoughts? subarubrat
If you could get a flat black, that would look great!
Leeroy
I certainly think black and your other colour suggestions would work great with your Brat's paint. And agree that if it is possible a flat or matt finish would be cool.
AWD J3wman
Hey! I just edited the pictures of your BRAT for JNC! I Think White would be killing it on that truck!
tundrabrat
He was able to give me an idea of what color would have been factory... I asked him to add the silver... Couldnt be happier. Edited October 19, 2014 by tundrabrat

spicypeanut
I'm thinking something like this: http://s140.photobucket.com/user/Sublime40_photos/media/Brat_zpsde9cce53.jpg.html Maybe go a little deeper on the color Red. And swap the lower stripe color. (black stipe on bottom, red stripe above)
