snacky
i've been dealing with rat nests far worse than anything anyone on this forum has described. i've done alot of research and tried many methods. from bleach to vinegar. nothing would work. i invested hours of elbow grease trying to deskunk this 82 brat and the 91 f250 that i bought that were both infested by the same mouse/rat colony. finally i tried something that worked. my mother showed me a recipe that consisted of hydrogen peroxide, a tiny bit of dish soap, and baking soda. i mixed all of this ingredients together in my pump sprayer. i used about 8 liters of hydrogen peroxide and a whole box of baking soda and probably 2 cups of dish soap all together. in 2 seperate spraying sessions. i soaked the seats the door panels the floor pan everything. i let it dry and then pressure washed it all out. i had nests in the rocker panels, underneath the seats and the floor pans mainly. the funk smell is gone. i have the car seats drying in the sun right now. if you don't want to risk stains than i wouldn't try this. my interior is garbage so i could care less what gets stained. this formula worked great! i highly reccomend. the f250 is next. got to pull the dash out of that one. MR_Loyale
Make sure you follow up with measures to block any future infestations. In the past I had to resort to setting traps in the engine compartment. Edited November 23, 2014 by MR_Loyale
idosubaru
wow, rats? nasty. O2 generators are the way to go. works 100% every time. rent them from local tool rental places or places online will rent them to you - ship, keep for a few days, ship back. liquids aren't terribly effective for organics and can not get into the foam, HVAC vents, electronic controllers, wiring, connectors where urine coagulates and dries out, etc. gas can get into all those places. if liquid worked then it wasn't actually that bad ( i mean in terms of clean up - it may have been visually atrocious), or it will come back in a few days/months. if they urinated and defecated all over the dash and chassis wiring heater blower motor, up inside the HVAC vents, and other electronics, and nooks and crannies inaccessible with liquids, etc - you wouldn't want to or can't get that saturated with fluids.
