Acheeze
Hey everyone im new to the forum and I want to know if you guys can help me out with my new GL. Quite frankly it runs like spoob, but I bought it as a DD beater. Currently it idles at 1500-2000 and any effort to turn it down with the idle screw only results in it dying below 1500, will sometimes die wile idling if I don't give it gas, and today died on me while driving. Any ideas where to start? Im new to carb'd cars. Thanks.
kerandt
Howdy Acheeze. Well. . . Sounds like it needs a thorough tune up for sure. You could try some carb cleaner but it's likely need of a rebuild. Alot of guys go with a Weber carb replacement for their simplicity. That's what I did on my 87Gl when I had idling issues. Do you know if it sat awhile before you got it? Good gas? Fuel filter? I'd check timing also. Look at the throttle cable make sure it has a little slack and is not holding your idle up. Might try some Seafoam in your next fill up. And Welcome!
Acheeze
It definitely does. It may have head gasket issues as well, but thats my next issue. I have gone through a tank of gas and recorded only 10 mpg. I took off the air filter and sprayed carb cleaner in there according to the instuctions and that did almost nothing. A weber carb would be nice but not in the cards financially right now. I have a can of seafoam and i just filled up, i could throw that in now. DaveT
It's been a long time since I had a car bed Subaru. Did they have a idle solenoid?
Gloyale
Your emulsion tubes are clogged. Get a $25 dollar rebuild kit and take the top off the carb. Remove the brass emulsion tubes and the jets and blow out/clean them all out. Reinstall. Make sure to replace the airhorn o-rings. That alone will improve the drivability greatly.
