cleveland2895
So i have a 2002 Subaru WRX and just recently it began not starting it does not do it all the time but sometimes when i go to start it all the lights will come on and work, but when i press the clutch and turn the key to start it you can hear it just click one time and wont start. It doesn't crank or anything its just a simple click sound... Another problem I have is that when i turn the head light switch to the off position the headlights will stay on. Anyone have any idea what could be causing these problems or have a solution to them?
Olnick
Quite possible the no-start is due to burned/pitted copper contacts in the starter's solenoid. Rather common problem in older Subies. Try a search on here for "starter contacts." It's not too difficult a job and new contacts aren't very expensive. Good luck.
yewman
I agree with Olnick about the solenoid. Also worth checking all the leads going to solenoid and starter are tight.
cleveland2895
Thanks for the help guys but I believe I found my problem. I tore it apart today and here the guy that had it before me when he put a turbo timer in it he spliced a wire for the ignition in about three different spots, and the metal to the crimps he used are loose and exposed. So I hope once i replace the wire here it will work. But thanks for your guys help.
Olnick
Good going! Let us know how it goes from here. And Merry Christmas!
Gloyale
The car also may have DRL (daytime running lights) The headlights will be on any time the car is running, and the parking brake is released. If setting the parking brake makes the lights go out that's what's going on.
cleveland2895
Okay so thankfully I replaced that wire and that was all that was wrong with it! Thank you guys for all the help. Also I only had the headlight issue once so if it happens again I will look into that more. Merry Christmas to you all and thanks again!
