grimaceNMike
My oil pan looks like it has endured a few rally races and needs to be replaced. I was planning to get one from the junkyard, but I have been twice and haven't found one in pristine condition. The stealership wants way too much for a new one, so I looked online... I figured it has no moving parts so what could be the risk of getting a non OEM pan? Anyone have any input on this matter?? Thanks!
Bosanski
I'm on my 3rd eBay oil pan. Never had an issue. I just kept bashing em before I had a skidplate.
Fairtax4me
Aftermarket oil pans tend to be thinner metal and have cheaper paint. If you live in an area where rust is a problem you may end up replacing it again soon. My only experiences with aftermarket pans are for Ford and GM V8s and V6s, and they re always poor quality and suffer from frequent leaks. Subaru pans are easier to get a good seal since the seal flange is totally flat, so you shouldnt have issues with that as long as you use good RTV.

grimaceNMike
There are three candidates at the local pick n pull I'm going to check out this Thursday. I didn't luck out the last couple times I went though. Thanks for the replies!
grimaceNMike
I am at the junkyard right now and there's four candidates here that I could use but one of them has a big dent in it and the other three have this extra plug.(see photo) I don't understand what the plug is for. Does anyone know what it is?
Fairtax4me
The extra plug is where the damn junkyard punched a hole in it to drain the oil. I hate that. There's a drain plug right there and they put a hole in it anyway!!
grimaceNMike
That is so lame. I'm just gonna order an aftermarket one instead, At least I got some practice on how high I can lift the engine/transmission on a junk car. Those screw's are going to be a turd to get back in..
