2005 Outback No Rear wheel drive when fuse is in?

Recommended Posts

Can Anyone Help me out here?     I have a 2005 Subaru outback wagon. In the last snow storm I noticed I can't drive this thing up hill. Upon further inspection I now realize i have no rear wheel spin, so basically just the driver side front wheel is spinning.

Car never made any noises leading up to this. Checked codes...... no tranny codes. wheel speed abs sensor code.  replaced wheel sensor, still didn't do the trick .I was told it was possibly the clutch solenoid. If so is it easy to get to on this model? Working on a shoe string budget to get this thing working again.  Any input will be much appreciated,   Thanks a bunch!!

"no rear wheel drive when fuse is in" - that's how it's supposed to work.

remove the fuse

1.  is the AT light flashing 16 times at start up?

2.  does the AT light work - does it light up with ignition on but engine not started?

3.  car drives perfectly fine other than being in FWD?

4.  is the rear driveshaft in place?

did the wheel speed ABS sensor code go away after replacing the wheel sensor?

what's the history of the vehicle?

has the engine/trans ever been out?

how many years/miles have you owned it?

The FWD light should be on in dash when the fuse is in. Remove it and see if you have AWD if so was probably a torque-bind problem that was being bi-passed.  If so wire the fuse to a switch in the cabin so you can control front wheel/all wheel when you need it. And GrossGary's questionnaire above would be helpful for a fix.

Sorry, I meant no rear wheel drive when the fuse is out.

AT light lights up when key is on then shuts off once started. (no blinking whatsoever)

The car has no rear wheel drive in forward or reverse

rear driveshaft is in fact in place

not sure if code went away had it inspected afterwards and it wasnt on the print out.

Ive owned it for 7 years and did replace the engine 2 years ago
