99 Legacy GT - nothing turns on

Just want to start by saying I have read alot on this problem and everyone seems to fix it by replacing the main fuse. I also tried the key in the on position and disconnecting the battery. Both didn't work me.

 

Here is the problem, battery replaced and everything is dead except three things, 1. the hazard lights work, 2. the door unlock/lock button works, 3. the chime rings when the door is open with key in the ignition (it has the same ring, no matter which position the key is in). 

 

I have access to a running 1998 legacy GT and I have swapped all the main fuses and relays with it, the 98 still starts and runs and my 99 is still dead. I could not find a large 100 amp fuse, the biggest I found is 50 amp and it was not screwed to the car, just had a clamp that had to be pushed to remove it. I tried looking and cant see any bigger fuses. 

 

Any ideas to try would help. I really don't want to take this to a shop, especially if this can be fixed at home.

Check the fusible link at the front of the underhood fuse box. It looks like a wire looped over with spade connectors on the ends. They burn under the insulation and you may not see any damage just by looking. Pull it and it will break if its burned.

I tried it, pulls out just fine and I replaced it with the one from the running legacy and mine still doesn't turn on or start, the other legacy starts with my fuse link.

did you try and lock / unlock the doors with the key fob?

if no key fob,

disconnect the battery,

put the key in the ignition

turn the key to start and let go.

re-connect the battery.

 

the remote entry / alarm system assumes you are stealing the car when the battery is reconnected,

unless you have the key in the run position.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!!

 

so a buddy of mine came over to look at it and he said the problem had to be with the main fuses somewhere. since they were replaced with from a running legacy we knew it wasn't the fuses. So we took the fuse box apart and when lifting it up, one of the connectors to 3 30 amp fuses just falls off. That means it was not even plugged it, we plug it in so that it snap into place and the car fired right up. Geez, it must have been hanging on by a thread for who knows how long and I am sure glad it didn't fall off while driving down the road and hitting a pot hole.

 

Thanks to all who tried to pitch in and trouble shoot this issue.
