5 Speed TOP STARTER Gearbox for EA71 engine, with 3.7(10-37)CWP

Recommended Posts

In my service manual it calls them "5GM" , but I think you are asking for the production code which would be on a foil sticker on the transmission by the bell housing. Sound correct?

Info you may or may not need:

1st gear 3.666

2nd gear 2.157

3rd gear 1.464

4th gear 1.029

5th gear 0.789

Only the "FE" model here in the USA came with 3.70 as best as I can tell. The other five speed were 3.90 or 3.889 to be exact.

Here the FE was a fuel efficient model with higher compression , different cam , and a taller 2nd and 5th gear in them. Perhaps you have a similar model?

The small foil sticker is located at the side/top of the bel of the transmission. I have seen various editions but they all begin with T. When I dig up a parts manual I will have more info for you.

That code 5GM is simply used to express a five gear manual. The true production code which identifies specifics is in that sticker.

What model is the car this tranny is from?

I have most of my manuals in storage. I will try to help but hopefully someone else has them handy.
