moosens Posted January 18, 2015 Share Posted January 18, 2015 In my service manual it calls them "5GM" , but I think you are asking for the production code which would be on a foil sticker on the transmission by the bell housing. moosens Posted January 18, 2015 Share Posted January 18, 2015 Only the "FE" model here in the USA came with 3.70 as best as I can tell. The other five speed were 3.90 or 3.889 to be exact. Here the FE was a fuel efficient model with higher compression , different cam , and a taller 2nd and 5th gear in them. Perhaps you have a similar model? The small foil sticker is located at the side/top of the bel of the transmission. I have seen various editions but they all begin with T. When I dig up a parts manual I will have more info for you. That code 5GM is simply used to express a five gear manual. The true production code which identifies specifics is in that sticker. What model is the car this tranny is from? moosens Posted January 19, 2015 Share Posted January 19, 2015 I wonder if an EA81 or EA82 FWD Turbo would help you for the final drive. They are a small percentage of turbos of course.
