soopsoop
stupid me tried to tow my subi without the front shafts i had just replaced the ball joints and tierod ends for the lady and put new pads on the brakes.then her boyfriend decided to work on it and lost the drive lines. it ran great when i left it but when i went to tow it the brakes where locking up turning red hot, breaking the brake line,by the way brake fluid is flammable, thank God for mud puddles,i am planning on replacing all the front brake parts, should i replace the wheel bearings also? Dj7291993
If you got the brakes hot enough to destroy the brake lines and catch fire, it's probably not a bad idea. The bearing may be ok, but I doubt the seals liked the heat.
Gloyale
The brakes were the only thing holding the wheel onto the car. Wheel bearings I'm sure are screwed too. The hub was surely cocked in the knuckle and riding funny. Heat from brakes and fire too? Yeah, I'd replace it all.
skishop69
Wait!!! You towed it without the axles??? Ummmm... Yeah, can't do that with these older cars as the have an inner and outer wheel bearing. Newer ones with one piece hub bearings you can. As Gloyale pointed out, the brakes were the only things holding the spindles on the car. Yep, calipers, lines, pads, rotors, wheel bearings and seals,,,,
Dj7291993
You may want to check your ball joints as well. Not sure how hot it got, but I imaging the knuckle was probably fairly warm as well, which would transfer into ball joints.

subpoop
damnsubaru and subpoop are the same person me. it might simplify things if everything gets transfered to damnsubaru.
