Push-button 4wd to High/Low 4wd Swap

Recommended Posts

Ok guys so I'm super excited. Last night I looked at an running 86 GL wagon with the High/Low 4WD transmission and the girl only wants $500 for it! Has some issues but I'm really only in it for the transmission so I'm not really worried about it. So here's the question. I'm sure other people have swapped out the push-button 4wd for the high/low. anything i need to know before i get buried neck deep in this thing or is it as straightforward as I think it is?

Yeah, you're pretty much gold there. The ONLY thing that may be finicky to hook up might be the 4wd and the lo light. Your car most likely has the lo light there, but it's just not wired up.

You can just leave all as is of course and throw the trans in, you just wouldn't have the lights functioning, but mechanically everything will be fine.

not sure where your located but if ALL you want from the car is the tranny, I'd at least check around cuz I'd hope you could find one by itself for cheaper. But if you can get other good parts out of it than go fer it!

So I just looked up replacement clutch kits and I'm finding that there are two different counts on the splines and different diameters. One is a 24 and one is a 21 spline with 8- 7/8 and 7-7/8's respectively why the difference?

Also my car is a 92 sedan. The donor is an 86 GL wagon.
