soopsoop
i got the heater blower fan to work on high now i just need the resisters for the other speeds.the fan was good, the wiring was messed up,the resister was melted, and the switch was bad. someone messed with the wiring in an attempt to get it to work.i also got the rear wiper to work, bought a motor from an 87gl(mine is an 88 dl). changed the switch also and turn the key on and the wiper works now just need an arm, details, details. the ecu has a bad resister in it so i got the ecu out of the 87 gl but didn't notice that it was a turbo it has a different box i will go back and try to exchange it for the right one, this one was sitting on the floor board right under the tilt steering with cruise not enough money, too many dreams. ford'ssubaru's
Just by the resistor new. I went to pull and save North Spokane and pulled 6 and found 1 good one. It didn't look that good either. I used it anyway.
soopsoop
i will try there again. are bad ecu's common on these cars? they should have a circut breaker in the power supply of the ecu.
DaveT
In mine, the resistor for the slowest speed is always the one that failed. I've taken the second one from spare units, and replaced the failed resistor with it. Slow is not quite as slow, but it's been a permanent fix. I have not had an ECU failure. Been running TBI EA82s since 1992. [My first EA82 had a carburetor, bought in 1988.] I've had a total of 6 TBI EA82s, still have 2 runners, [one is down for transmission work] and a 3rd supplying parts. Of course, now that I've written it, one should fail in a week or so.
rdweninger
There was some talk about a resistor pack from a Toyota PU that will work. Anyone have experience with aftermarket packs? Do they fit? How long do they work? I now only run my fan on high (no resistance) or OFF. I am assuming my resistor pack will last forever, now. Wish me luck. DaveT
This is true, not using it should extend the life.

rdweninger
What I meant was that my fan is always ran on High. When the cab is defrosted or warmed up ... I turn it OFF. Most people drive around for years with the fan setting to 1, 2 or 3..... without even realizing that their fan is on. The more you use the resisted settings of 1, 2 or 3 - the quicker your pack will burn up.

DaveT
if you do the mod I suggested above, you don't have to worry about the resistors burning out. Over 20 years on my modded ones.

Dinky26
Anybody know if this is the way the present day cars/trucks are set up?
soopsoop
i have checked the power wires coming into the ecu, they have power just no output i also have no little light lighting up on the ecu. could a bad ign relay have something to do with it not working,it doesn't work either and i bypassed it and still no luck the wiring is good just components are bad. i tried to get the ign relay at the stealership and the lady behind the counter didn't know what i was talking about, the closes she came was 5 different relays starting at 150 to 300 bucks i said no thanks i will find one somewhere else. all the wrecking yards around here are missing this relay. Gloyale
You can use Ig relay from any 90,s Subaru. They are way up in the upper left corner of dash. If the ECU has power to all needed pins then the relay is not the problem. Check the grounding bolt on the intake manifold. All ECU grounds go there. soopsoop
well the blower fan was working now it quit again, put new resistores in nothing, damn,i think the problem could be a bad ign switch because nothing works unless i wiggle the switch. does anyone have a pinout of the ign switch? i am getting tired of guessing all the manifold grounds are hooked up and the battery is charged it is just an intermittant problem which is driving me crazy but persistance is its own reward i have until winter to get it running. soopsoop
still haven't got it running yet,but when i was working on it last i reached up under the dash and bumped the wires under there and everything worked ,so now i just need to reproduce that happy mistake to find the bad wire or wires. someone told me there was a ground wire attached under the dash that was the main ground for everything inside the front dash where is it. the wiring diagram is a little vague. TomRhere
Black wire with a large ring terminal end on it. It can go on the ECU studs, or the steering column mount studs.
