sario
I have 97 outback that has a cylinder 2 misfire if I drive it up a hill when the engine is still cold on cold mornings. I have tried changing plugs, ignition wires, air filter, and cleaning the pcv valve. Anyone have any other suggestions?
plogerjb
Seems basic, but I'd try doing a cold and a hot compression test to see if you have worn rings or something of that nature.
sario
Ill check that Friday. Im 460 miles from home right now, so i hope it stays a intermittent/cold issue.
sario
I paid a shop to do a hot/cold compression test. The test did not show any problems. I've tried swaping the inject from cylinder two to cylinder 4. But i still get a cylinder 2 misfire from time to time. any other suggestions? nesok
Maybe check coil for corrosion on the plug wire contacts.
Rooster2
Maybe bad cold coil pack?? That is why swapping fuel injectors remained at cylinder 2. Subarus are mechanically sound, so not surprised that a compression test came back negative. I suspect your trouble is electrical or electronic. sario
I've ordered a new coil pack. I'll post back how that turns out.
sario
I ended up taking a known working coil pack from another car. It didn't solve the problem, and my coil pack worked just fine on the other car.
