axel breaking roll pins

Recommended Posts

So I recently went to install both front axels on my lifted 87 GL but everytime after installing them and putting the roll pins in, the drivers side axel would chew up the roll pin and the axel would come loose from the transmission. Anybody ran into this before? Any ideas for solutions? Thanks in advance for any help

It sounds like you might be using a 25 spline (Turbo style) front CV axle in a 23 spline (non Turbo) car. If the axle fits on the stub of the transmission with lots of slop then it's not right. The roll pin will fail almost instantly.

The roll pin is not meant to take any stress from rotation. The splines should fit very close. The post above sounds like a good idea to check.

ya, i didnt figure it was meant to take stress, guess ill have to count my splines and see
