nicholi2789
Hey guys, looking to get some bigger rims and tires for my 95 subaru. I'm looking at a set of 17s. I was curious what is the biggest size I can fit without rubbing a ton and modifying the suspension. Anybody put on a set of 17s with the stock suspension? The wheel size for the ones I'm looking at are:P215/55 R 17 buying them used for a good deal that's why the odd size. Thanks.
Fairtax4me
Depending on the wheel offset, that tire size is likely too large and the tires will hit the rear strut spring perches. Overall diameter of that tire size is slightly larger than stock Outback tires. Outback tires drag on non-outback struts.
Fairtax4me
A good place for checking tire and wheel sizes is www.willtheyfit.com

nicholi2789
Thanks guys. Appreciate the responses. So it tells me they will fit basically but not how close it's gonna be. My speedo will be off a few mph and I can deal with that. I just wanna know how bad they will run. A little rub is okay by me until I can get Outback suspension and stiffer sway bars. I was curious what the biggest rim size is that people have used and got away with on stock suspension.

ocei77
They do not rub, Use the site I mentioned. You will not have a problem with the sedan. The width of the tire is the major issue. Cannot go wider than 225/45 on a 17" rim ( which is what I have). Which is the same tire and wheel combo I used on an 07 Legacy. The strut mount location is what gives the clearance. The centerline from the hub to fender distance is the same. O.

Ooh well, I'll just look around for some wrx rims or something.
Aluxes
What about going with adjustable coilovers? Then you should have no problem running those tires. This is the set-up I'm putting on my 97obs. It works out to be around the same price wise, and easier than using the legacy struts
