What do you use for under-hood lights?

Recommended Posts

I don't typically work on my engine at night except if something goes snafu,so I haven't installed a hood light. If I wanted to however I would go to a junkyard and get one of the factory installed lights off any car.It wont cost much and you can get the light, wiring, and the hood sensor in one place. My 89 dodge had a factory one with a 20ft spool of wire so you could take it with you. I'm sure if I ever took the time to clean the wires and the contacts it would work great, but the few times I opened the hood at night I just used a cheap flashlight or my phone.

those cheap 3 LEDs circles with double headed tape, stick 3 of em up there and they seem to be fine, never use them unless im on the side of the highway at night. try a chevy van hood lamp, when you tilt them, they come on, one of my friends had one on his 3000gt.

I just carry a flashlight in my car. Underhood lights never shine on whatever broke. The only time I ever open my hood at night is because something broke and now I'm on the side of the highway...

Believe me or Not, I found that the very Best light to use during my Nightime Repairs (Which are a Lot) is a Powerful Led Headstrap light. It points the light where I point my eyes, leaves my hands Free, is small and runs with AA alkaline batteries, so no wiring nor power from the car is required, and thus means unlimited free movements, plus weatherproof capabilities ... I have one on the GloveBox on each of my cars.
