Ussi
Hello All, I just joined the forum for help with an 05 Outback I just received that's making a scary noise.I love Subies, I had a 94 Legacy wagon I drove forever and my wife had an 00 Outback she drove forever.Last summer my wife got a 07 VW Passat and she's regretted switching from her Outback since then. I just got this 05 Outback for her and it doesn't sound right. I've a youtube video up on it and would appreciate any help with diagnosing and fixing this problem. Thanks in advance and here's the link:

Ussi
Maybe, but I dunno. I can rev the engine in neutral and no noise.I can only induce it with heavy acceleration/load. When it's screeching the noise immediately stops when I let up on the gas. It's definitely worth checking that turbo oil filter. Thx Edited May 2, 2015 by Ussi
nipper
Well revving in neutral the car and turbo wont be under load. Under load the turbo is doing the most work.
Ussi
Ah, definitely a turbo problem then.It seems to run fine, driven sedately there's no problems. When I step on it is when it screeches.
Fairtax4me
Pull the intake hose off the turbo and check the turbine shaft for play.
