Lifting the Loyale next week

Recommended Posts

So after many many reschedulings over several months, I am getting my subie lifted with the 2" BOSS next week.

I'm having XV wheels mounted with 5x100 adaptors.

And I really don't know if this will go smoothly but it's time to give it a try.

I have read mixed opinions about the 2" lift and what should or need not be done to the car for optimum performance and less axle damage etc. But i'll give my car a chance to handle this mod without other complex changes first. If it's a mess, I will either revert or make further mods.

I'll post an update in a week or two.

Not bad, will look nice, wish i would do that to mine, but the way i think is, i don't like investing in one project more than what i bought the car for so i limit myself, good luck with the project and keep us informed! love the color btw, got the same color also, screams 80's.

Looking great!!  I like the wheels.  I'd like to hear your conclusions/ opinions about the 2 inch lift.  I've been thinking about it for too long.  Were there any problems or difficult aspects?  Thanks for posting.  Cheers

the front was a bit challenging and I had to crowbar the front a bit because it was barely rubbing on full turn. i'll tweak the front but its riding great otherwise.

has anyone noticed that the EA82 vehicles have an amazing turn radius compared to other peoples cars? i can do a U turn with 3 lanes including the one im in.

I love me an extreme turning radius. Yes these cars are great at that. I'll try to regain it with some adjustment to lower body panel. Ever so slight rubbing. These are 17" rims so.....

the back wheel looks like its not centered, am i right on this? its not your fault, it was subaru, but its more towards the front of the wheel well right?

also maybe i should give you some credit, i ordered 2 4WD stickers on ebay like you have on your front fender, i like them, i have 1 sticker i bought couple months ago thats on my back hatch that says 1800 4WD, but plain 4WD for the fenders looks great, so thank you for the idea!

the centering is something of an issue i've seen on other lifted L series too. I can't say I know the exact reasoning for it but i'll look into it more now that I am in the game. Here is a closer look:

Thanks! I am obviously not a purist with this car. Just having some fun. The other 4WD decal near gas cap was chosen by my kids and it hides a ding  B)

I cannot find the tailgate 4WD decal, mine is all faded. Why is that so difficult to find?

no one cares about the wagon. rarely does one ever restore a worthless vehicle, now they have been going up in price the past 2 years, but it still needs more time before aftermarket manufactures begin to produce stuff for them.

heres mine, i could not find the exact replacement, so i chose the one with the 1800, you can still see the old one alittle but i sanded it down as best as i could, it wasn't an easy peel off the old sticker and stick the new one, took me a couple hours of carefully sanding and not going to bare metal with no paint, you can't really tell unless you look for it.

mine has 11 door dings on the drivers side and 7 dings on the passenger including someone keying one side of the vehicle back in 1998 before the car was abandones for 15years, 1999-2014 when i picked it up. (registration and inspection sticker proves that)

that fender dent, was that from you adjusting it with a crow bar? :(

I have driven it about 100 miles and so far it's been a great ride. I had gotten used to my horrible old balding wapred tires to the point  where my ride now feels like butter. Car handles close to what it was like before.. just a little more truck-like, obviously. Normal driving has a new car feel to it. It helps that all systems right now are running as pefect as can be for a 22 year old car. It's quieter now with these tires and with the exhaust and engine further away from the road, the subaru growl is more noticeable than before. So its a quieter ride with a slightly more pronounced subie sound (I wish my fans weren't as loud as they are however).

The only rubbing is on rubber in wheel well when going in reverse on slopes. I think this may improve itself over time without me ripping or cutting anything off. I'll keep an eye on it... but nothing is risking damage to tires. It's too bad about my dent near front bumper. That was the only negative thing to come out of this so far. Axles are not complaining yet. I'll periodically update this thread with anything worth mentioning.

I swapped in new chrome lugnuts but looking into getting quality black ones and maybe a lock kit.

I attached a PDF of some compiled info that I hastily copied from the forums etc and some images of parts and results of my car. Had to reduce quality to attach but might be useful reference for some.

did you bend the other fender also or only the passenger side needed it?

Man I wish I could forget about this dent ;-)

I didnt do it, the guy I worked with on the lift did (with my permission).

We just needed a hair more space so we used a crow bar and a shop cloth. He worked it too hard on passenger side and it just buckled on him. Oh well. But yeah we did both sides, hardly noticeable movement but it helped. My friend is a Dent Wizard guy so I might have him work it back into shape.

you should, it makes me sad :(

and you have no idea how weird it is looking at your car, its exactly like mine, minus the wheels and dark headlight covers, (i have the clear). also forgot to thank you for that accessory lol, thanks again for the idea!

the paint color you have is quite uncommon. do you know your paint color? mine fell off of my strut tower, is it 943? just want to make sure about that.

Honestly performance is very good (5spd). Actually better than before but I had balding warped tires on her before this upgrade. geolandars feel like butter. I'm sure their is a slight hit since these are big rims but hard to notice since the car is always on the slow side anyway lol.
