So I have a 1996 Impreza L with the ej22. I need a new filler neck, so I called the local dealership, and they said that there are 2 different filler necks for that year. One with a valve and one without. The guy said mine would be about $190, meaning it has the valve, but he didn't tell me the actual parts number. Could someone point me in the right direction to finding a cheaper one? And maybe give me the right part number so I can make sure I'm buying the right part. Thank you in advance.

I'd get a good look at your's, may be a picture.

www.car-part.com from a rust free state will be much less.

If your in no rush, I could get you one from Colorado for about 45 shipped.

I tried looking it up on the Subaru website amd nothing came up. It could've just been a website error though, because I know I typed in the Vin correctly. And $45? How can you get one that cheap? That's damm near free haha

It's $45 because it's used. But they don't have rust problems in CO. Used is a great option for these since you know it'll fit.

There are aftermarket ones that you can get through rockauto for about $80 plus shipping. I would rather have a real Subaru part than aftermarket junk.

The valve is easy to identify. On the side of the filler tube up near the top you'll either have one large vent hose (about 5/8" dia) coming off the side of the tube, or you'll have a small box about 1"x1" with two small hoses leading to it. The box is the valve.

I'm in the process of changing out the neck on my 98 impreza right now. It's what I classify as "new evap" style so it has the little valve box thing near the top with two hoses and a third hose to a point on the neck a little above the valve. I was under the impression that the "new evap" stuff came in around 97 so I'm surprised there is a question on yours. It's pretty easy to check as directed by Fairtax above though. Good luck with the process.

Alright, so I tried uploading some pictures here and they were too large of a file, so here's a link to them: http://imgur.com/a/j28qP

Also, the Vin number on the car is: JF1GC4355TG510527

In one of the pictures, you can see a second pipe coming off the filler neck, so that means I have the one without the valve correct? So why did the dealership say I had the one with the valve?

I believe that the Part Number is:42066FA030???
