somick
2010 Forester with 62000 miles. The parked car was hit on the passenger side front and now I can start the vehicle only with the MAF sensor unplugged. The sensor does not have any visible damage and looks clean inside. I do not get any codes with the sensor plugged in but I cannot start the engine. When I unplug the MAF the vehicle starts but I get the MAF error code. Before buying parts I would like to test the sensor. Is it possible to test it without a scope just using a DVOM? Regards, Sam
Fairtax4me
Looking at the sensor pin 5 will be on the left, pin 1 will be on the right. Check the IAT circuit pins 1&2 resistance. Should be approx. 2.5 Kohm at 70°F. In the plug check for 12v reaching the sensor on pin 3. Check pin 4 for sensor ground. Check pin 5 for voltage when cranking. Should be about 0.5v depending on airflow. You can also remove the sensor from the housing and blow across the sensor element. Watch for voltage to change with airflow change across the sensor. somick
Thank you Fairtax4me. I will try to play with it this weekend. Sam
montana tom
You probably already have but ,make sure all your breather lines are still attached, the impact could have knocked one loose. If the idle air line was knocked off or cracked it won't start easy or at all until you unplug the maf.
somick
YOU ARE THE MAN TOM! You have encouraged me to do what I wanted to do some time ago but did not get enough time to try. I was trying to start the engine with the sensor plugged in but the air duct disconnected and it did not work. What a stupid move! Assembled everything back and the car started right up. Thanks again, Sam
