Hitachi Secondary wont Open

Recommended Posts

Can someone please help me figure out why my secondary barrel wont open? I'm certain that the mechanical base plate that holds all the springs and bars is to blame, but I cant figure out how to get the d**** thing to work! If someone would be kind enough to take a pic of the side of their carb (the side with all the springs and bars) so I can compare theirs with mine that would be great. I'm not sure how this got messed up, but it needs to be fixed. Thanks all1

Have you replaced the gasket between the secondary vacuum diaphragm and the main body of the carb?  The little one with four holes.

You should be able to see the actuator move when you pump the throttle while the engine is running.  If it doesn't move, swap diaphragms (super easy), see what happens.

Yep I replaced the gasket and swapped diaphragms. The d**** thing still won't work. My car also seems to be running really rich. The exhaust leaves a black spot on the ground. My float is adjusted on the dot.... I did do those emissions deletes. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Here is my carb: you can see the deletes I made. does anything look wrong to anyone?post-54976-0-14065600-1431628300_thumb.jpg

Jeszek.... your a genius! I will make that conversion ASAP

Thank you for your Kind Words.

If the Rest of the carb is Alright, such mechanical conversion might help a little with acceleration and Low End Torque, but if your Hitachi Carburetor has issues, you Must address them and fix it, prior to do the Mechanical Conversion.

Sounds like if your Hitachi Carburetor, might has backwards interchanged Main Fuel Jets, the Bigger one in the Primary (Low) Stage, and the Smaller one on the Secondary (High) Stage, so it worth check it; also check the Choke, it could be sticky.

The emmission's stuff has nothing to do with it running Rich, unless some vacuum on the carburetor is misplaced...

Kind Regards.

Jesek... I dont know what I would do without you... :D

I took the carb off today and what do I find? That the jets ARE backwards!! :banghead: And what I found was this:

Printed on the primary (pri) and secondary (sec) jets are numbers. I took the jets out of the other spare carbs I have so i could compare and two pairs out of the four pairs of jets that I took off have the number 111 for the pri. and 140 for the sec. I'm guessing that the number is probably hundredths of a millimeter or something like that.. but the point is that the pri. jet is the smaller number and the sec. jet is the larger number. On the bowl assembly that I am using off of a donor carb (only needed to use the bowl because my top part and base assy work fine off of my old one... so I just transplanted the bowl onto my old carb's top and bottom sections) the secondary was in the primaries place and it has the number 145. The pri had the number 114. So these jets are just a little bit bigger than my old ones.
