No Use
Hi! So as the title says, my speedometer, odometer and tach are not working after an engine swap. I have a 99 impreza L, which had 2.2 in it. Few weeks ago i swapped in an ej25 from a 99 RS, and changed the transmission as well (it's the same 3:9 transmission, mine was getting old). Everything seemes to be working nice, except the tach and speedometer. I have everything hooked up, speed sensor on tranny, all the sensons on engine. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated, using speedometer app on the phone is not as convenient
lmdew
Do you know if they were working when the eng&trans were in the RS? Speedo, I'd swap the sender from the old trans on to the RS Trans.
No Use
Yeah, i already swapped that one. The thing i forgot to mention, the tach worked for a little, when i started car the first time after swap. But i had to change the cam sprocket and all that, because the car was running like crap (cam and crank pulley differences between the two engines ). So then, when the car was really running, the tach, speedo or odo. didn't work.
lstevens76
I would check fuses and recheck all your grounds. It sounds kind of like a ground is lose/missing. Have you verified all your lights, stereo, etc... work?
No Use
Yeah, i checked the fuses - all seems fine. I didn't check the relays yet, i didn't think they would go out , but i'll check them along with grounds. Everything else works, you see. Temp and fuel gauges are fine. lstevens76
Well tach should be off the crank sensor, but if it wasn't working the car shouldn't be running. Have you checked for any codes? I don't mean the check engine light, I mean actually checking for codes. The speedo as well in this scenario as it should be setting off a code if its not actually working. If you have no codes than you have narrowed it down to a dash problem or a communication to the dash.
No Use
I should check for codes, but don't know where could i do it Gonna see maybe some local shop does it for reasonable price. Edited June 2, 2015 by No Use
lstevens76
Android tablet or smartphone with Bluetooth and a $20 Bluetooth code reader using the torque app. Or go pick up a cheap code reader from you local auto parts store. Connector should be under the dash to the left of the steering column
No Use
So i got i checked for codes last night, my friend had a reader thing. No codes. I think with all the battery connecting and disconnecting, when trying to start the car after swap, i might have burned my instrument cluster somehow. I'll find another one, and see if it works. I post what happens, when i change it.
