DSwanson1
I am looking for a list of cars that have parts that are mostly bolt on for a 89 GL-10. I have a number of decent pick-a-parts in the area and want to know what to look for. I have very limited modification and fabrication capabilities so I need some ideas that do not require much work to install in my car. I am looking for direct replacement parts as well as upgrades. Though it does have the EA82T engine I do not plan on doing an engine swap at this time. The engine only has 160,000 miles so that job will wait for a while. Loyale 2.7 Turbo
What I wanted to say, is that you must be more specific, because few parts from other cars will "Bolt-On" your Subie, I know about certain coil Springs, and Calipers / brake pads... but we need to Know what do you need, first. Kind Regards.
DSwanson1
I do not have a big list as of yet but am looking for a general idea of what to look at in the junk yards. I know that I need a new bumper cover, front grill, and passenger side marker assembly. the previous owner bumped something as he was backing out of a parking spot. I will post a pic later. I also want to swap to a set of seats that have the fold down arm rest though I know that I will probably have to do some modification for that. When I swap to bigger rims I am expecting to need to change out some of the suspension and I will probably want to upgrade the brakes. Besides that I know that I need some of the molding for the body. Everything else is in pretty good shape though if the rust is too bad when I start cleaning it up I may have to replace parts like the fenders or rear hatch. Subasaurus
about that back bumper, you might be better off just replacing the whole thing, more info here on that rear bumper. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/152684-rear-bumper/ and im with you on the back door hatch, seems that they all love to rust. Subasaurus
like a GL-10 donor vehicle, hes looking for rear disk brakes, higher trim seats (GL-10), grill and i dont blame him, mines cracked on the top but the hood covers that, who doesn't want bigger wheels, side marker lights are typical since water gets in them and makes them ugly, suspension typical also, it is a 25 year old vehicle, moldings and decoration pieces also.all this i was able to achieve by grabbing myself a junk EA-82 for parts, if you find one, they are very cheap ($200-400). problem is finding one lol, but yes as Loyale 2.7 Turbo pointed out, it will be cheaper if you get another vehicle for parts, and since you haven't had this vehicle for long, more stuff you had no idea are broken or are about to, will need replacing. Subasaurus
Does it need to be a GL-10 or could I go with any third gen DL, or GL, and what parts might i get from a leone engine wise there isn't much in a gl-10 since they were, lets say a bad design on the turbo (EA-82T), but as you posted previously, if you want fancy seats and rear disk brakes, those are only available on a gl-10, as long as the gl-10 doesn't have air ride suspension, you can also steal those (if there any good) make the back bounce and see how many times it bounces after you let go of it, that will determine how good the shocks are, you dont want a DL since thats a complete base model. junkyards charge about $35 for each front seat, $90 for both rear disks, so if i was you, i would get the 2 front seats and rear disk brakes at the junkyard and buy a GL (whole parts vehicle) also, i think that would be the cheapest most efficient way of knocking down the list you have of parts. and ultimately completing your 1989 Subaru. DSwanson1
Ok. Sounds good guys. On a slightly different note: I want to eventually swap out the EA82T for an EJ22, possibly even a turbo variant or add a turbo later. I have heard that the EJ22 is the easiest swap you could do that would increase horsepower (I read that somewhere on here). Which EJ22 should I look for and what all do I need if I buy the engine? Also I am planning on swapping out the hubs and brakes from an XT6 and go with some 15 in rims. What all should I expect to grab out of the XT6 to do this and do you all think I will need to do a 2 in lift before I put the bigger tires and rims on it.
