Sti parts on first gen legacy (specifically 93)

Recommended Posts

So I want to find out what sti and or wrx parts will bolt onto or into my 93 legacy Mt awd wagon. I can fabricate things to fit better so direct bolt on not nessesarry. Please exclude engine and transmission info will look at that later although clutch info wanted.

Only thing that really comes to mind besides drivetrain parts is 04 STi struts will fit. Except the rear, you'll have to use your top hats or drill to make them fit. Control arms, rear lateral links, hubs. Front seats.

I can completely understand the reasoning behind this. I myself almost wouldn't mind doing the same thing, I just bought a 94 Touring Wagon that needed some trans work. I don't know how much a wrecked sti would go for, especially wrecked so that you can steal most of the parts, but it seems cost prohibitive, how much more power can you get out of an sti (230 stock hp) then a 22t(163 stock hp)? Is it worth it?

I sure want pics if you end up doing it though!

What about exhaust? Any sti with same bends I could just re weld the mounts bit easier to find direct bolt on.

I don't think the exhaust will have the same bends. If it's a turbo, the header and up pipe will fit if you upgrade the turbo.

I know for a fact that the entire wiring harness on a WRX (EJ20) is double redundant: i.e., even the warning for a bad tail light is double wired.  The '93 Legacy has none of that nonsense.

I suggest you visit a few Subaru-Vanagon conversion sites.  They will have more usable information on what you absolutely have to have and what you can leave off for engine management than places like NASIOC where it's all "look whut I did, bro!"

When we do a wiring harness for an EJ22 conversion into a Vanagon, we start with a 15' harness that weighs about 27 lbs.  When we are done clipping and snipping, it's about 4' and 5  lbs. That's without a turbo. Now, consider, that in a Legacy, you really DO want some of stuff to still work.  Find someone who sells a good wiring diagram (like Small Car in Washington) for the info.

You will need a different crossmember, up pipe, down pipe, cross over pipe, exhaust, ECU, wiring, sensors, fuel pump, complete engine, intercooler, cooling system, fans, etc, etc, etc.

This is why I asked why you would want to do this.  It's a "plumbing job".  You know, the kind of thing you get half way into and wish you had either paid someone else to do it, or hadn't started at all.

Yeah, some people have done it, but make no mistake: it's a B*$^ch of a job.

I am well aware this will be an undertaking not for the light at heart I assure you I won't be even starting until I've done about a year of research and getting all the crap I ran into this issue shoot I didn't consider this stuff from other people's mistakes. I don't even want to stay trying to instal until I have put more durable internals into the engine and gone over how the donor car is set up and what does what and how is it plumbed. I was also wondering is getting a front mount intercooler better or just a hassle for little to no gain. I appreciate the warning of caution but I'm up to it and I will probably help my buddy with his before I've gotten to mine I mean I still have to save the money for parts I will post my research as I go and ask for insight and experienced opinion. I love working on engines love trying to get things to work and love a challenge.
