califcamper Posted July 26, 2015 Share Posted July 26, 2015 Hi, My sister has a 95 legacy and she is having an issue that just started. She said it was real hard to get into gear the other day, and she forced it into 2nd and drove home somehow. Got it home and now she said (when running) it wont go in any gear. When she shuts it off she can put the clutch in and it will go in all gears with car off. Start it and no gears at all. Any help would be appreciated. With the engine off, it may still be possible to change gears, even without depressing the clutch. What happens if you have the engine off, and with the car in 1st gear, the clutch pedal is depressed, and the engine is then started? Does the car lurch forward? Is there any way I could explain to her to check it? Unf she is 2K miles away from me so I am little help at this point. If it was a misadjusted clutch could I explain to her how to try and adjust? That behavior will happen if the clutch is not releasing all the way when the pedal is pushed. She can try adjusting the cable. The release lever is on top of the transmission on the drivers side. Adjustment only requires two wrenches. One to hold the adjusting nut and one to loosen the lock nut. Should be 10 and 12mm unless someone changed the originals. The release lever is a common failure and requires removal of the engine or trans to replace. Basically a clutch job. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
