Wind noise from small triangle that holds the mini tweeter/exterior mirror

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have a 2001 Legacy sedan, base model, only 88,000 miles, great car. I get a lot of wind noise from the front driver's side door. Upon further investigation, it comes from the little black rubber "triangle" at the forward edge of the driver's door window. This "triangle" holds the small mini tweeter on the inside, and the exterior door mirror on the outside.

I find that if I push my fingers -- hard -- against the inside edge of the rubber seal, I can block the flow of air and quiet down the wind noise. But I can't figure out a way to tighten the seal or otherwise improve the noise.

Can the whole unit be replaces? How is it attached to the door? Do I have to remove the inner door panel (grown)?

Thanks for your suggestions.

It can be replaced fairly easily, another fix is to lower the window and put a few clamps of some kind across the gap where the window goes while it's hot out, and leave it there until it cools off.

Then, make sure no one closes the door by the window!

The gusset seal.

They're about $70 from the dealer last time I bought one.

Its a whole chunk of a thing that also includes part of the front window track. Have to remove the door panel to replace it, but the door panel is easy to remove on these cars.

I posted this solution many years ago after a tip from a SOA tech.
