jmoss5723
Who has had the longest ride in a BRAT's rear seat? Distance or time? I haven't had the jumpseats installed in my BRAT for very long, so there hasn't been much opportunity for long rides in them. Mostly quick trips across town for 5 minutes or so. I understand that they're not the most desirable seat in the world, nor are they the safest. My brother-in-law spent about 30 minutes in the back the other day and it got me curious about whether anyone has a story of a particularly long ride back there. I'm certain this one isn't the longest, but I'll start with it anyways. My brother in law rode back there for 30 minutes in 50ish degree weather the other night. We were cruising back roads from my house to his and he had to ride in the back because I've been DDing the BRAT so it has my daughters chunky carseat in the front. He reported that the ride was generally pleasant, but his head was cold and he was concerned for his life when I nearly hit a deer.
colemanapp
Three of us took a brat with a topper from Vail CO to Lake Tahoe, then Yosemite, then back to Vail in 1985 at the end of ski season. We took all our skis too. So we shared time in the back with skis which at the time were 205-210's. We pretty much camped out of that thing for 2 weeks. My first Subaru trip. And cold. 210s would definitely require the topper to be open, right? Actually that sounds awful for everyone involved. That's a long time to be in a car with seats that you can't really recline at all. Edited August 28, 2015 by jmoss5723
colemanapp
i'm pretty sure we loved it but I was 24 then and could put up with alot. We had so much stuff in the back that there was probably a bunch of bags we were laying on. Pretty sure we had the skis on a pass thru to the front, where the heat was supposed to be coming from. We were pretty seasoned to the cold at the time. I omitted the overnight stay in jail somewhere in northern Nevada. The metal bed in the cell being worse than the brat seats, I heard. lilySapphire
Well, it wasn't a ride in the back, but I went to a drive-in movie last weekend and we sat in the back seats for about 90 minutes. It wasn't really very comfortable.. or maybe my rump roast is "not the right type" to fit comfortably in the seat for extended periods.

When you say "not the right type" do you mean not the butt of a small Japanese man?
jono
well, not in a BRAT or even a jump seat , but my dad did a run of a 1400 mile return trip in the back tray of a utility between Sydney and Melbourne on the highways cough, cough of the early 1950's !
