Looking for Baja clutch info

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I recently purchased a clutch kit off of e-bay for my 2006 Baja Turbo.   The pressure plate was a design I had never seen before, but then I had never seen a Subaru pressure plate either.

I disassembled my Baja and removed the clutch components, which looked like every automotive clutch (Detroit Big Three) I had ever seen.

Consulting with the e-bay seller, he informed me that the clutch pressure plate he sold me was a "Pull Type" and that is what my Baja required.

Going with his logic, the clutch pressure plate I removed was a "Push Type" (??????? I'm confused).

.

Went to local dealership and they had OEM parts is stock.   Parts were identical to the parts I had removed (Push Type).     Installed dealer parts and Baja runs fine.

Has anyone had experience with a "Pull Type" clutch pressure plate in a Subaru?

Thanks, Jim

I thought all the turbos used a pull type pressure plate. Not really sure why your Baja doesn't. Subaru has used pull plates since at least the early 90s on the turbo models. The pull type offers a higher and more consistent clamp load on the disc.

They also seem to be less prone to the Subaru clutch shudder.
