Any Chance an outer CV joint marked 80-89 would fit a 1979 Wagon ?

 I'm guessing they are different somehow, But would be nice if I could fit the later outer CV stub/joint on the earlier 1st gen axle .

 

Anybody know the difference, I bought one marked "1980-89 outer"CV joint and axle stub thinking the outer might SWAP onto thethe 79 wagon axle LOL..

 

I havent tried to fit it.
