the sucker king
What year models of legacy cars have the preferred EJ22 engines for swapping into older cars. What do you look for on the engine to visually confirm it's the right one? There is something about an egr port or something on the early ej22? idosubaru
depends what you mean by "preferred" - they're all basically the same with minor differences. 1990-1994 are OBDI 1995-1998 are OBDII 1996 and earlier are non-interference 1999+ are Phase II's, I'd avoid those. EGR doesn't matter, you can just remove the EGR and block it off.
the sucker king
Thank you, for some reason I was under the impression that the earliest ej22 were easier to use in ea cars. If the engines all the way through 98 are just as do-able, that would sure make them easier to find. The EGR thing- to be legal I would need it, what ej22 years would you use in order to keep the EGR system functional?
the sucker king
bump for the egr question
johnceggleston
does your car have EGR now? if no , then you do not need it. as far as which year to use, 2 things come to mind . OBD 1 or 2 and emissions crap. obd2 is more helpful, imho, but i logic tells us that the older cars would have less emissions crap on them.
