plaxer
My 1993 Legacy's driver side auto seat-belt stopped working correctly yesterday. The wire came out and the belt got stuck half way down the track. I read that replacing the entire assembly is the easiest thing to do. I went to a junkyard and pulled out a replacement and after installing it it doesn't work. The seat belt alarm is flashing, the auto seat-belt acts like it isn't getting any power. Also the shoulder belt doesn't engage when it should - so I assume it is not being recognized by the computer. Things I tried - I put the old one back in and tried to see if the seat-belt would be recognized - no luck. I unplugged the battery for 5 minutes to re-set the system - no luck I checked the fuses - although it isn't clear what fuse to check - no luck I am pretty sure I didn't damage anything when I replaced the assembly. It is strange because the seat-belt was working fine (other than being caught on the track) before I unplugged it to start working on it. The passenger side still works fine. plaxer
SO I read a section of a random service manual - http://www.seccs.org/tech/1992%20SVX/Service%20Manual/AUTOMATIC_SHOULDER_BELT_SYS.pdf it says that since I did not disocnnect the battery before repairing the shoulder belt assembly - when I re-connected the replacement it entered "system failure mode" That sucks
plaxer
to anyone out there reading this - The replacement seat belt I swapped was dead also. As soon as I put in a different one it worked. I'm a total pro at removing automatic shoulder belts now
