Wrecked my suby and I hate it, looking at this.

Well everyone it happened.....

Yup I'm pretty heartbroken, 85k on the car ran like a top but the brakes just didn't do what they needed to do, and I can't put all the blame on the suby but my feet were to the floor with nothing locking up and I thought I could stop but apparently not.

 

Rear ended a E250 van and his bumper went right over mine, shifter is tweaked, everything looks pushed up but the motor mounts are intact....

 

Anyway now that I'm angry talking about it, I have always loved foresters so I found one that looks great and looks to be in very good shape, problem is its in California I'm in Colorado. I can get it shipped but that's quite a gamble. Well here are some pics of what I'm looking at.

Any ideas, thoughts, on the whole situation, I mean I could get a loan and fly out to grab it BUT what if it sucks or I feel something is not right with it etc. I don't know guys I'm all over the place right now my life is a mess I miss my suby and I can't drive my Toyota to work everyday it's killing my back.

 

Anybody in LA want to check it out:) not really just diggin at this point I don't know what to do.

 

Guy wants 12.9k but I'm sure that negotiable 79k on the car and it doesn't look too molested, but again pictures is all I have....

Sorry to read that, but Glad to know that you're Alright.

 

Your Subaru looks fixable, I've seen much worse hits being fixed almost Flawlessly, on these EA82's so, you might try to fix yours as well.

 

In my own humble opinion, the Forester is an Awesome car, however, the one you're looking at, seems to be Lowered, and for me, it does Not make any sense to have a Lowered 4WD subaru... but also, that is fixable.

Ugh, that sucks. Just went through something similar with my forester. Someone turned in front of me and I didn't have enough to brake. I bought my replacement car 1000 miles out of state, talked to the guy, had him send me pictures of everything I wanted to see, etc. Once I decided it was going to be a good deal some friends and I got a one way rental, drove down and picked the new car up. Depending on your insurance, they might actually pay for a few days of rental, and if going through an insurance company you don't usually have to pay the one way fee.

 

If you don't fully trust the seller you could ask him to bring it to a dealer to have them check it out (on your dime, obviously). The dealer is likely to give you a good overview on the car, unlike a private shop that may be paid off, etc... If it checks out, go drive it home. Get some friend together and make a roadtrip out of it.

 

Also, don't be in a rush to buy your new (used) car... Being in a rush to buy a car is the best way to get screwed on a deal.

If another car kills your back that bad I wouldn't be so eager to fly and drive back an otherwise unknown vehicle.

 

The first car can easily be repaired and run another 100,000 miles as far as I can see.  That looks benign.  I've rebuilt totaled/salvage Subarus before, just picked up paperwork to do another one today.  Yours looks simple.

getting it back to perfect - well that's another story - but that car could easily go another 100,000 reliable safe miles without issue for not much money in repairs.

if that's a turbo forester, i'd want really good prior maintenance/owners records or something on it.

 

those engines are huge expenses to repair when they incur turbo and engine issues.

and guess which ones are most likely to be traded in and end up back for sale on a dealer lot?

right - ones with issues.

 

someone on another forum is juggling a problematic turbo OBXT he bought in June and the turbo exploded right afterwards and now there's more issues.

not the first time i've heard that story.

 

i'd rather buy one of those from a private seller where I know exactly why they're moving on.

The things that worry me is the motor and tranny have shifted, cvs are at more of an angle, shifter is off by a selection so nuetral is drive, the tranny bracket on the top in the picture is bowed up about 2inches , timing belt has also broke as soon as I got it home.

 

Water pump was ceased up and bent, lots of damage I fear I cannot see.

 

Yes lots of subarus in CO but I am drawn to that body style and the lowered part of it I don't mind. And most of the ones I can find here are pretty beat up for that year.

 

I don't know guys as stated my life is chaos right now and didn't need this to be going on, I love my truck but for everyday it's killing me on my commute. I'm the type that needs things to be in good shape and fixing this the right way seems to be out of the question, is it possible sure, but is it worth it....I don't know, only I can make the call and it's going to come down to parts availability and time and money, you know like everything:)

 

Thanks for the responses, I'm all over the place so feeling everything out at this point hating that it happened but still trying to get over it and move on or keep it and figure it out...

You can take out the Engine and do a Reseal / Timing Belt job, while straightening the Body and fix the shifter issue, which must be a Bended base for the Linkage, it would be a Fun project...

Look for higher milage cars. Lots of people are spooked by high milage, and pay premium prices for low milage. I found a local guy who buys the cars dealers don't want, goes through the driveline, does the head gaskets and everything. Knows which models go forever, and the few to avoid. Paid less than a used car dealer, really clean body, nothing much to worry about for 100,000 miles.

Damn, I wish I lived closer and found this thread a month earlier. I would have LOVED to have had your old car. I've got a '92 Loyale, auto, same colors and everything that I'm planning on fully restoring next summer. Your car is far cleaner and less rusty than mine (from what I can see). Would be a better platform to build on. I hope your car has found a home by now. I just hate to see these things get crushed.
