GFT Hardtop

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a GFT hardtop. Hoping to use the rear windscreen for my GSR coupe. I haven't managed to get the two cars side by side yet.

Can anyone confirm if the hardtop and coupe rear windows are the same? My eye-crometer says maybe?

If anyone would like pictures or more info of the GFT I am happy to oblige.

This should fit... But it is in the US and not sure how much or how easy this would be to get to NZ:

There was another rear screen that has been listed for about forever but I cannot find it now.

Have you tried Cromwell Wreckers?

I'd imagine shipping of a window from America would be many times the vehicles worth sadly.

A plexiglass window would be a good option, but I don't think it would meet the 6 monthly inspection requirements for cars here.

Also the GFT is a long way from meeting those requirements too.

I won't be parting it out in a hurry though. Not if I can help it.

I have had both vehicles next to each other now, the rear windscreen looks to be measure pretty close at first inspection, but without the GSR's screen intact its hard to say.

I have begun making inquiries in NZ about rear windscreen seals and custom glass options.

Does anyone know of a commonly available rear windscreen rubber that will fit a 1400 Coupe?

I have been in contact with a parts supplier here in NZ and am trying to match a suitable rear windscreen rubber.

I have also found an Australian glass supplier that shows (I think) a hardtop and coupe rear glass in stock, am waiting to hear back from them if they are willing to ship to NZ though..

Any luck with the GSR rear screen waimaks? I was going to suggest the company you have linked above (they list on eBay AU too).

Only rear windscreen rubber I have found is for the sedans (also on eBay AU) and this might be too short for the coupe. I might be able to stretch but I have always wondered if you could buy two cut them to size and then join them...

I bought the sedan rear seal from Phil's rotary. It is too short by about an 1 1/2" in height (width is ok), but the guy I had install my glass was able to stretch it to fit. You can see where it is pulling the corners and it is starting to split somewhat, but since being installed about 6 months ago, it has not gotten a whole lot worse. Considering there does not seem to be a option for the coupe, the sedan one will work. i thought about buying 2 and splicing it together, but my wallet wouldn't open.

Interesting about the screens waimaks. They state on their eBay ads that they will not ship and it is entirely the buyers responsibility, which I find a bit odd considering they specialise in glass.

Mark, thanks too for the feedback on the sedan rear rubber. Good to know it will stretch and work but I do worry how long it will last, especially here in Australia. Our sun is pretty much deadly!

Anyone know how rubber can be bonded or 'vulcanised'? After all the seals have to be joined at some point in the manufacturing process. Anyone able to shed some light?

Hi, I am not sure if this is going to help but I have an April 75 Parts catalogue and has a large range of rear screen part numbers.

Need to know what exact year/model and preferably the chassis number to lock it down.

Cheers
