I have an electrical question for my 2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS.

Recommended Posts

Ok I am trying to install an aftermarket radio in my 2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS,i know the radio was working before this.

Well the red wire gets power when the key is on,the yellow wire is not getting any power at all. From what i read it is suppose to be giving a constant 12v.

So where in the car could i find something that gives a constant 12v so i can splice into it to give power to the radio?

I have checked the cabin fuses, and the one marked radio is good, and i do not see one the fuse box under the hood marked for the radio.

Thank you guys for the help because i really want to get this radio working, because it has been over a week i have been with out a radio.

The radio should work. The 12V constant only needed  for the presets. For some reason I am thinking there is an inline fuse somewhere in the harness close to the radio.

Well as a test i wired the yellow wire coming from the radio to the red wire, and turned the key and the radio turned on and worked, but i really don't want redo all my setting every time i start the car.

I did not see a fuse on the stock wiring harness.

trainergames,

Take a test light, ground the clip end, and then go through your fuse panel (probing the contacts of each fuse) until you find a live 12 volt feed that you can tap into for your yellow wire. The clock fuse comes to mind, and there will be others, but I just can't think of which ones of hand.

That said, there are special clips that allow you to tap into an existing fuse position for just such a purpose, and still leave the original fuse in place. A good auto supply store should have them. Obviously you'll need to lengthen your yellow wire to reach the fuse panel under the dash. I've done this a few times on several different cars. Good Luck!

This is not correct. The constant (yellow) is the main power for the head unit. Switched wire (red) is just to tell the unit to turn on. No different than the remote wire going to an amp.

Is your radio hard wired or do you have the adapter that plugs into the factory wiring?

Make sure the pins didn't get pushed out of the connector.

Double check the fuses. Pull them all out one at a time if you have to.

that did not seem to happen, also i had to stop checking fuses due to rain, but of all the fuses that i checked they were all still good.

If it helps the only thing on the inside of the car that does not work is the curise control, everything else works perfectly.
