lmdew
I got a used 95 2.2 with 57K on it from a yard. I paid $850 for it, way more than the YPAP motors I usually get, but hey with 57K on it I figured it was worth it. Well, It's been nothing but problems. - First it would not start, bad Crank Sensor - easy fix. - It starts but is not running smooth, P0302 & P0304 so I figure a bad coil. I put a good Subaru coil in but its still missing - Pull the Plugs, #4 is oil soaked. I call the yard, they call the yard they got the motor from. They say we pickle the motors when we pull them. - Today I flushed the cylinders with jet fuel. I pulled the plugs, filled the cylinder with jet fuel and let it soak a few minutes. I rotated it over by hand with the plugs still out and then with the starter to get all the fuel out. - Put the plugs back in and rotated it by hand to make sure it was not locked up - Started right up and was running better but still missing - P0304, flashing CEL. The code will clear, but comes back soon. The Injector is snapping well, so I don't think it's fuel I'm about ready to pull the engine and get a refund. Anything else, worth checking before I pull it? Thanks, Larry Back to the UPAP for motors.
mikaleda
Maybe some stubborn carbon stuck to the a valve? I would start with a compression test and see what #'s your getting. Are you still getting oil on the plug?
Fairtax4me
Compression test? If compression is good, pull the injector and swap it with number 2. Injectors get cruddy if they sit too long. Have seen quite a few that click open but don't spray.

That doesnt explain an oil fouled plug tho. Like mikaleda asked, still oil fouling?
lmdew
No the plug is not fouling. I have lots of injectors, I'll put one in and see if that solves the problem. Compression test if I can fine my tester. Thanks, Larry
lvsarge
I second a compression test.
lmdew
Injector! I pulled # 4 today and it was a red injector I have never seen. Instead of the normal metal end it was plastic. I put in a red Subaru metal end injector, NO MORE Cell and it's running better. I'll swap out all 4 injectors and the fuel rails in the next day or two. I'm sure it will be a good Subaru 2.2 again. Fairtax4me
I have some of both. Some with the metal cone ends. Some with a funny plastic thing on the end. Not sure what the difference is.
ThoR294
Was going to say. Cylinder needs spark/fuel/compression. Start swapping injectors/plugs and compression test lol. Good job
