lmdew
Yep, motor is plug and play. Save the motor and any other good parts you may want. Scrap the rest about $250 or so for the weight of the metal.

matt167
a 1999 legacy will have an ej222, and the electronics are different than the 1997 ej22e.. A 1999 outback has the old style electronics and will swap with an ej22e
mikaleda
Does the 99 have a 2.5 or a 2.2? If it has the 2.5 the 97 2.2 will bolt right in and plug right in, but if it's a 2.2 it will be different electronicaly. I beleive it can still be swapped, but its not plug and play. djmark7
id like to know about the alarm tho Edited December 3, 2015 by djmark7
matt167
I think, if its a 2.5 the alarm should swap because the electronics are same.. The box is under the center console as I recall. I could be wrong..
mikaleda
If your engine swaps than the alarm will most likely swap.
Rooster2
a 1999 legacy will have an ej222, and the electronics are different than the 1997 ej22e.. A 1999 outback has the old style electronics and will swap with an ej22e A 99 Legacy will have the ej25, not the ej22. The electronics is the same. Pretty much plug and play, with a change needed on exhaust header, as they are not the same. But no big deal. Yes head gasket problem is a potential problem on a 99 model 2.5 motor. All Legacy motors 2.5 from 1996 thru 1999 are the same design, so head gasket problem is there for all Legacy cars during those years.

mikaleda
right now there is no alarm in the 99 you think the wiring is there? I would see how your alarm is installed, but if its factory than yes the wiring will more than likely be there.
djmark7
sorry to bring this up again, the 99 is not an option now looking at another '97 however it does not have the cold weather pkg. (heated mirrors etc.) nor factory alarm it does have remote locking question is, do you think the wiring would be there for alarm & heated mirrors so it would be a matter of swapping the alarm unit and mirrors & switches? thnx again guys also the car i would be pulling it out of is a limited other car is not Edited December 5, 2015 by djmark7
