crazyhorse001
My new xt is plagued with spark knock, pinging, or detonation, whatever ya wanna call it Being a spider ea, is this a timing issue i can fix with a light, or is there a special "secret handhake" i need to know to set base timing? Just asking cause i know some cars you hafta disable the electronic advance. Timing components, ignition components, filters, are all new. Thanks in advance (pun intended lol)
Quidam
Run the highest octane fuel you can get. Move the distributor clockwise if that doesn't fix it. Just some things you can try. Do you have a knock sensor on this car? hth Edited December 9, 2015 by Quidam
crazyhorse001
Being a n/a mpfi, im not sure if it has one or not. i know the turbo version has one. Its an 87.5 if that helps
Quidam
Edited original post by me to say, turn the disty clockwise. This retards the timing. Your car probably doesn't have a knock sensor. Even if it does, doing the above may help you get the ping under control.
