beamsbox
Any options or ideas on how/where to get/make new/used weatherstripping for an 86 GL hatch windshield and rear window? Would like to get the inside of the car dry and make it a bit more liveable.
Rust
I use black silicone. Even if I could find replacement gaskets, I'm too worried about breaking, or chipping the glass doing a replacement job. Unless you really know what you are doing glass breaks very easily. A tube of silicone and a box of rubber gloves is all you need.
beamsbox
Its already been siliconed all over and still leaks, making it a bit less siliconeable...
beamsbox
Anybody know which other body styles would match my windshield? I have the 86 GL Hatchback with the EA81. I found these online: http://www.prp.com/Products.aspx?veh=1986~SUB~GL&imgs=Y But way cheaper here: http://www.jcwhitney.com/precision-parts-oe-replacement-glass-weatherstrip-seal/p3039135.jcwx?filterid=d1933y1986g2j1 Looks like they are for 1986 GL Coupe and Wagon, but the company hasn't gotten back to me as to whether the Hatchback works. I'd like to avoid ordering the wrong product. Lots of stuff has been easier to order if I ask for an 84 Brat part (thanks ezapar for that tidbit), but once you start getting into the body, that will change at some point. Not sure where that distinction lies.
jonas
'86 hatches used the EA81 (gen 2) body style. '85 and up wagons/coupes used the EA82 (gen 3) body style. Don't think they'll fit.
jonas
Got this message from Subarubrat about window gasket. Haven't followed up on it so i don't know if they have more. This was for a gen 2 Brat, should fit your hatch. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If your still looking, my windshield was installed by Brown's Autoglass 10245 Fayettesville Rd, Bealeton, VA 22712 (540) 317-1420. They had a new one, they may be able to get you one as well.-Scott
beamsbox
Thanks Jonas. I ended up calling all over the place. One place lead to another. Finally I called a local guy that could replace the gasket, but he said that the chrome trimming might not fit back into the gasket afterwards, citing China-made, etc., etc. So, after all the calling I found this place online, bit spendy though. Precision used to make an OEM quality gasket, pn wcr 417, but even they have none anymore. Here's a link to a place that has them currently. So, I guess for those who care, get 'em while they got 'em. http://www.partspros.com/5130600.html Thx again all. Oh ya, anybody got any info on the rear hatch window and gasket? beamsbox
I take it back. PartsPros does not have they part... 'Due to an inventory error...' they have refunded all my money. Bummers.
