mrfixiter
Hi I am considering purchasing this water pump http://www.ebay.com/itm/371245964137 but I was wondering, what are the parts shown in the picture above and below the pump's gasket? Also, is the GMB water pump, which is sold with many ebay timing belt kits, as good as the Aisin? Thanks for your reply.
porcupine73
The little L or S shaped rubber piece underneath is a piece of gasket just to help seal crud form getting inside the timing belt covers. The round thing on top is a thermostat gasket.
mrfixiter
Thanks for the info about the gaskets. Do you have any opinion about the GMB water pumps?
porcupine73
I have not used those pumps so I don't really have any input. I do know that the genuine pumps are excellent and though they are say twice the price that's usually what I get because the cost of replacing it again later if necessary is going to be far more than that irregardless of if the part has a lifetime warranty. 1 Lucky Texan
I see experienced folks recommend OEM or Aisin waterpumps.
Rooster2
About 10 years back, I installed a GMB on a VW I owned. It worked okay, never gave me any problems.
