subarurcs2010
I just had my vehicle serviced and they said their was corrosion buildup on positive battery terminal, suggesting a recommendation for "Battery Service" $39.95. Does anyone know what this means?
1 Lucky Texan
yeah, someone is charging you a LOT for what many of us do ourselves, or an independent mechanic might do for $10-$15 .
keith3267
Your battery is 5 years old or older if it is the original. It could go at any time. Batteries are expensive so you would be looking at maybe $150 for a new one, but the installer should clean the terminals when they install a new one. $39.95 is way too expensive for that service, except for certain Fords that have to be reprogrammed when the battery is disconnected.
subarurcs2010
How long will the original battery last?
1 Lucky Texan
anywhere from under 2.5 to 8+ yearsextremely variable, mostly dependent on climate and any abuse the battery suffered.where I live, 3 years is old for battery - heat is very bad for them. They are expensive enough that having a suspect battery tested is worth the hassle. It's remaining capacity can be tested, checked for dead cells, etc. Edited February 4, 2016 by 1 Lucky Texan
