EA82 suddenly stopped running

Recommended Posts

I have been Lurking on this site for awhile trying to soak up as much as I could for this project my daughter and i have been working on and have learned allot but apparently i have fallen a little short

I recently swapped a VW vans original motor for an EA82 that i had in a 90 loyale.worked well fits great with room to spare more power than the old VW motor. we have had it on the road for a few days now and have been overall happy with it. HOWEVER my daughter says it just quit on her while shifting to 3 in traffic. just shut off while moving. i have checked fuel, fire, air, fuses, all good but the timing (mechanically) was a little off the tensioners were  loose so i adjusted them.now I'm thinking it must be electrical is there some safety circuit  Oil or other that would account for sudden stoppage? can anyone help

One of the mods will have to move this to the Old gen section and you'll get better help there.

If the timing was off, more than likely that's the problem. Double check your timing marks.

I'll also suggest replacing the timing tensioner or tensioners to prevent a repeat.

In a loyale, there is a system that shuts off the fuel pump if it does not see ignition pulses. I have not had to troubleshoot that .

+1 check the timing marks are all correct. If you don't know that the belts and idlers milage is, it would be wise to replace them... the idler & tensioner bearings (1 idler 2 tensioners) are pretty nearly worn out by the end of life for the belts, which I don't trust beyond 50,000 miles.
