Tire (tyre) questions

Recommended Posts

Just got a 1980 1600 4WD DL Wagon with an EJ22 swap and a couple of other nice modifications.

I'm running Peugeot 14" wheels and wondering where I can find decent AT tires for it. I think that the car could handle 65s or even 55s with little trouble. I'm trying to not go Too nuts and stay within the 195 range. TireRack and others are Seriously failing. All they wanna show me is touring tires. I Know they make smaller diameter truck tires.

Also, I love the big round headlamps I have, does anyone know if/where I could find HiD round headlamps that could be swapped in?

The smallest All Terrain tires I know of are 195/75-14. Goodyear and B.F. Goodrich both make them. Without a lift on an 80 model you most likely will have some rubbing. I have not seen any 70, 65 or any other series in an AT tire for a 14" rim. You can mount snow tires. Many do have a more aggressive tread pattern, but softer rubber and wear out quicker.

Thanks, it has a 4" lift done already, that's one of the "other nice mods" I mentioned.

Looking at things, I'm considering a spacer with a 5 or 6 lug pattern. But, if I can find the BFGs I'll likely head for them. Goodyears make me bellicose. I don't mind the snows that are on it, and will, probably, get a set of studded for when the weather turns nasty next winter. I Like the General AT2 pattern, but they start at 215. And, being in WA, I'm going to have to hang flaps off of the square steel rear tow bumper that's another modification.

I really do appreciate the reply.

Not a fan of Goodyear either!! The B.F. Goodrich are considerably cheaper too! Last AT tires I had in 195/75-14 were Cooper Discovers and they were pretty good. Looked similar to the Goodyears but way cheaper. Sadly they don't make them any more. Your welcome for the reply. With an EJ swap you should have no trouble turning them, lol!
