My Weber Is Dieseling

Recommended Posts

hot spots ie carbon build up (oil consumption)  glowing causing pre-ignition dieseling  (run on) as well as a faulty carb / too much fuel (too high idling speed) helping to cause this and possibly incorrect ignition timing.

also the use of low octane fuel in a high compression engine can cause this too.

"subnz" hit it exactly right.

If you don't want to fool around with fixing it you could just get in the habit of killing the car with the clutch then turn the key off.

I mean, by all means you should fix it but being a 30 year old car I could see the hesitation in putting money into it.

Checking the timing and adjusting the carb / installing correct idle jet isn't very expensive though.

If you have heavy carbon build up there's a few things you can try but the right way is to pull the heads and clean the valves / piston tops.

No. it's not a new problem. I'm pretty sure the carb needs adjusting. I don't work on cars so if there is someone in SW Washington that can fix this for I'd appreciate it. I can pay a bit.

If I had the money I'd pour it into the Sube. Get the AC going again, put on new struts, replace the valve cover gaskets, re-do the front end (pretty minor stuff), and replace the headliner.
