Subarule
Ran across this a couple of days ago. Nice. And good to know. http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1986/Subaru/GL/4-Door-Station-Wagon-4x4/Values I presume that is without a bunch of body alterations and without diverging from the original in any obvious way.
987687
NADA tends to be rather high on older cars. There are so many of these cars out there, no way it's worth that.

Even a mint condition one wouldn't fetch anywhere near that much. Nada = garbage whether new or old IMO
987687
It's not bad for collectible classics, but some cars are just ridiculous. It values my 84 mercedes wagon at like $12k.... No way in hell, they made literally millions of those cars and there are tons on the road.

Actually, there really aren't that many out there. Not any that aren't piles of xxxx, and very few of those. Go on Craigslist and try to find an '86 for sale, searching in large cities. Find one that hasn't been Frankenized. Scarce as hen's teeth. I am talking about 86es, with 4WD and a 5-spd.
987687
You can sorta take that tack, but you must realize that an 87, 88, or 89 is a comparable car to the point the value of 86 specifically doesn't really matter.
firehawk618
My only point is even if someone found one with 30k miles, little old lady only took it to church sundays. Never seen rain or snow. Always garaged etc etc it would take ages to get $3000 for it IF it ever sold for that much.Perhaps in 20 more years then it might fetch $3k. Rust
NADA, Kelly Blue book, ect. = just government tools to rip off citizens is states that tax cars, no basis in reality. A used car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it period.
987687
Yea... Maine goes by MSRP, which is even worse, especially when you own a 35 year old car with an MSRP of like $38k. They can rip you off like there's no tomorrow.
