minimac1010
So I have a 1996 Subaru legacy outback and I was wondering if A. I can get way with STI rims on my car and B. If I got some STI breaks with caplier mounts would they fit? Any feed back would be great getting sick of the stock rims and want to spice up the car a little bit. Also were would be a good place to look for a engine rebuild kit for my 2.2l its not runing well or cleanly and it could use some tlc.
lmdew
Nope Lug spacing is different. The Outback is 5x100 as are most other Subaru's other than the STI & SVX. TireRack.com is always s good place to look up basics on wheels.
ocei77
STI rims up to 07 were 5x100 IIRC. 17" rims will fit as long as the offset is good. Do some more research on LGT.com. They have a nice FAQ in their wheel and tire section. Do the basics, tune up, injector cleaner, etc. O.
matt167
2004 STI is the ONLY USDM year they were 5x100. starting in 2005 they went to 5x114.5 ( common Ford 5 lug actually 5x4.5 ).. Japanese and other markets had STI's with gold rims before USDM so gold BBS wheels that fit may still be obtainable thru the right channels, but pricey. I'll second this answer, 2004 STi rims only if you're going that route. And they're EXPENSIVE, if you can find them. You can put WRX parts on your car, brakes, rims, suspension, all bolts right in. Don't buy STi stuff, for the most part it isn't going to fit. You want to rebuild your engine? That's a drastic measure for an engine not running well. What's the problem? A good place to start is by changing the spark plugs, buy the cheap NGK copper plugs, they work best in subarus. Make sure to set the gap correctly, also use NGK or OEM plug wires for best results. minimac1010
So okay wrx parts sounds good. The engine has had new plugs at around 199 thousand miles it just had a new air filter the previous owner said new fuel injectors around 180 thousand it's got over 202 thousand on it right now. The engine runs well goes through the rev range well just sounds like there's a compressor going off at idle maybe a pump but not sure and it doesn't smell well when it's driving not oily but like its not burning the fuel well and it leaks oil like every Subaru as well that's why I'm thinking of a rebuild also I would like to put a turbo on it for a bit more HP
wtdash
Hi, You need to get your reSearch hat on- - Your leaks probably don't need a rebuild - but rather new (re)seals. Covered on here and other Subie sites. - Fuel smell could be a leaky injector....although they may be new-er, they may not be installed correctly. - Go look on RS25.com for adding a turbo.... FYI - Usually cheaper to find a lower-mileage 2.2 than rebuild it.... Remember to read the Stickies @ the top of most Forums.
