Naturgeon
I recently bought a 2015 Legacy 3.6 with EyeSight. I love the car especially the Eyesight option. The dealer told me not to use RainX on the windshield because it would mess with the camer optics. Anyone know if this true or not?
gbhrps
naturgeon, I would suspect that its true, first because the dealership told you not to use RainX. Second, from my experience with using RainX, that it must leave some sort of film on the glass to make the rain lose its surface tension and bead up and run off just with gravity, which slowly declines over a month's time or so. Basically if I had a car equipped with Eye Sight, I wouldn't use RainX on its front windshield after being told not to by the dealership. Why mess with a good thing?
keith3267
Just don't use the Rain-X on the area in front of the camera(s). You should be safe to use it in the areas that the wipers cover. But I don't see how it would mess with the camera's optics. Edited March 27, 2016 by keith3267
keith3267
I sent an e-mail to MySubaru.com and asked them if this was true. I'll let you know if they answer.
DaveT
I'm curious why / how it interferes. I've seen it fog on just the right conditions, or is it the moving droplets? I like rainX. Mostly I just use the washer fluid kind, as the manually applied kind is too much work, and usually guarantees that it won't rain for a month.... it will be a long time before I have a car with eyesight anyway, but I am curious. Bonzodog
I just got a 2016 Forester with Eyesight, after my 1994 Loyale was totaled last month. My dealer told me not to use Rain X as well.
keith3267
Since you both have bought new Subaru's, you can sign up at www.MySubaru.com. This is Subaru's official website. There are some benefits for doing that. Then you can ask them for yourself. Maybe if enough people do that, Subaru will tell the dealers to stop doing that.
